Discover how Self-Love is the key to unlocking the powerful Magic behind the Law of Attraction.
In order to understand self-love and the Law of Attraction, we must first understand these concepts separately.
You can read numerous blogs of mine to understand the former (see my full list of blogs here), but here’s a summary below:
“Self-Love is loving yourself unconditionally and without expectation, especially when you f*ck up. It’s about knowing your own worth and holding yourself in high regard.
Self-love is taking action towards your physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being. It’s about meeting yourself where you’re at and giving yourself what you need, even when you feel like sh*t.”

The Law of Attraction
For those of you that don’t know what the Law of Attraction is, here’s a very basic explanation. The Law of Attraction is a belief, a philosophy, popularised in the movie The Secret, proposing that like energy attracts like energy.
Simply put, positive thoughts, actions, and vibes bring positive results and outcomes your way, conversely, negative thoughts, actions and vibes will bring negative outcomes and results.
Fun energy attracts fun energy. Angry energy attracts angry energy. Peaceful energy attracts peaceful energy. Hateful energy attracts hateful energy. And so on.
The general process used when applying the Law of Attraction to manifestation is to first gain clarity on what you want through the contrast of experiencing what you don’t want and then asking the Universe for that which you do want.
Then you must focus your energy in the direction of what you want and take aligned action in said direction. For example, if you’re asking to win the lottery, it might help if you bought a ticket!
You must then go about aligning your energy by tapping into the same feelings and vibrations that come with having what you want. For example, if you want to win the lottery so that you feel calm and abundant, find ways to tune into the frequencies of clam and abundant.
And finally, you must fully believe it’s possible and then be open and available to receive in that which you are calling forth.
In summary, the Law of Attraction can be boiled down to these 7 steps – clarify, ask, focus, act, align, believe, and receive.
How does Self-Love fit into all of this?
As established above, the Law of Attraction, and therefore the ability to manifest, requires a few fundamental ingredients: the ability to dream big, the confidence to go after what you truly desire, the capacity to focus and align your energy, belief in your capabilities and worthiness, and the openness to receive it all in.
Self-love will support the general principles of manifestation simply by raising your vibrational frequency to a higher, or more ‘positive’, state.
By deepening your sense of self-love, you will naturally begin to increase your self-worth and self-confidence, all contributing to the wider Law of Attraction picture.
The first principle of the Law of Attraction requires you to have something in mind to attract in the first place – a goal, a dream, a destination. Self-love gives you the permission required to dream big, beyond what your normal, and sometimes limited, human imagination can perceive.
The more you love yourself, the more you will calm your inner critic that has been crushing your dreams and erecting roadblocks along your path.
Your usual thoughts of “Who do you think you are dreaming so big?”, and “You will never be capable of achieving it so why bother?”, will be replaced with “You can do this!”, and “I believe in you!”.
Self-love empowers you to take action toward your dreams and gives you the confidence to go after what you want. Although it does not remove your fear completely, it will fuel your courage and motivation to face your fears, and take chances and risks you might not have dared to before.
Loving yourself builds up your resilience in the face of failure and mistakes and makes it easier to get up after you fall. Self-love diminishes your shame and embarrassment after a perceived ‘fail’ and gives you the strength to ask for support along the way.
Given that belief is a key component when applying the Law of Attraction, it’s important to mention that self-love is proportionately linked to self-belief and your wider faith in the magic of the Universe.
Developing your sense of self-love will have a knock-on effect on your belief in yourself, your power, your worthiness, your capabilities, your strengths, and the broader belief of your dreams becoming a reality.
In order to manifest something, you must believe you deserve it and that you are worthy of receiving it. And this means right now, not at some point in the future when you are ‘better’, or have achieved something that makes you worthy. Decide you are worthy now.
The practice of self-love significantly strengthens your feelings of deservability and worthiness and supports your ability to remain open to receiving the dreams you are attracting in.
Self-love will act as a huge amplifier to your manifestation efforts, supercharging your vibrational frequency and making you an intense magnet for your dreams and desires.
The Universe is a Mirror
The Universe behaves a bit like a giant mirror – show it what you want and it will provide this back to you.
Similarly, show it what you don’t want, and it will also provide this to you i.e it will give you what you don’t want because that’s where your energy is focused.
Taking this concept into consideration, it makes sense for you to show the Universe how much you love and appreciate yourself, because it will reflect this energy back to you.
If you start loving yourself more by showing up for yourself, listening to your needs, taking care of yourself, setting boundaries, and respecting yourself, then eventually everyone around you will show up in this same way.
Self-love can also be a great way for you to become the mirror for others and lead by example. Loving yourself is the ultimate gift you can give to your loved ones, particularly if you are a parent, carer, teacher, or role model of any kind.
By showing those around you how you expect to be treated e.g. with kindness and respect, it is showing them a standard of how they should not only treat you, but also how they should treat themselves.
When someone around us exerts a boundary, it can often lead to us assessing our own boundaries, and potentially strengthening them as a result.
If you are the main example in someone’s upbringing, like a parent or carer, they are learning by your actions. If they see you respect yourself, listen to your own needs and generally treat yourself with compassion, this is the lesson they will take on and the habits they will absorb.
If you can’t love yourself for yourself, start by loving yourself as an example to those you care about. You never know, it could change their whole life.
I now invite you to consider a few ways in which you can apply these principles in your own life. If you struggle with the believing part of the equation, then start small with things you definitely believe are possible, like a parking space, finding a feather on the floor, or receiving an unexpected phone call from a loved one.
